For Maths tests children require:

A pen and pencil.

A ruler displaying both cm and mm.

An "angle measurer" (protractor).

A mirror.

Tracing paper.

Where a calculator is allowed, this is a basic model (non-scientific is fine).

2016 saw new KS2 SATs tests in English and Maths with some schools being chosen to sit Science tests.
2023 SATs tests
English
The reading test will be a single one hour paper (including reading time) with questions based on a selection of texts of 1800-2300 words with 50 marks (1-3 mark questions). Question types include multiple choice; ranking/order; matching; labelling; find and copy; short response, and open-ended response.

The GPS tests comprise of two tests. Paper 1 is a grammar, punctuation and vocabulary test lasting 45 minutes with 50 marks available. Paper 2 comprises of a 20-word spelling test lasting approximately 15 minutes.

There will be three papers and calculators are not allowed.

Historical position
A Key Stage 2 Science sampling test was not created in 2013 as it was decided a new biennial pupil-level sampling system would be introduced in 2014. Approximately 9500 children will be randomly selected (based on 5 children from 1900 schools). Children will sit the test within a two week window from Monday 2nd June 2014 and it will consist of three separate papers, each taking no longer than 25 minutes to complete. No individual school or child will be subsequently identified.
From 2014 calculators may not be used in Maths SATs tests.
From 2013 the English tests included a new SpaG format where grammar is tested.
From 2011 KS2 SATs Science tests were replaced with teacher assessments in Science but a random selection of schools should take national sampling Science tests to monitor standards.
